A 60 % Alumina strong, versatile high, temperature castable refractory.
3100°F VersaFlow 60 is similar to Mizzou in that both castables are 60% Alumina and are considered 'low cement' refractories, using less water than conventional castables.
**Versa Flow 60 is designed to be a self-levelling product. Mixed similarly, Mizzou does not flow as easily and needs to be packed or vibrated into form, which makes VersaFlow 60 an economical casting when a dense form cast is required.
The Compressive Strength of VesaFlow 60 actually increases as the temperature rises, up to 16,000 psi above 3000°F.
Consider Ultra Express 70, a similar self-levelling 'low-cement' castable if you need additional Flux-Resistance.
The mixing time for these dense, strong, low-cement refactories is 5 minutes. Working time is typically 20-40 minutes.
The advised water ratio by weight for hand casting is 6%. Like many low cement castables, VersaFlow 60 tends to 'liquify' more after 3 minutes. However, depending on your application, we often find that, without a vibration caster, using a little extra water conveys superior results when building small forge castings.
WATER MIXING TIP: On your first casting mix (or even as a preliminary small test mix), pre-measure multiple small cups containing 1 or 2% extra water to have on hand. If you need more water after mixing for 3 minutes with the recommended 6% water, you can quickly and sequentially empty one cup at a time until the mix reaches your required texture. This way, you don't waste time measuring once you begin mixing, and when finished, you know exactly how much water you've used by counting the number of cups emptied. You can use this % on all subsequent mixes.
