ThermBond Phosphate-Bonded 2 Component Adhesive Refractory - R (3400°F)

7 items left

Phosphate-bonded refractories are the UNIQUE castables that can bond to your old existing castables, bricks, steel, & other surfaces, unlike any prior materials.  They are a newer generation refractory, behaving similar to two-part epoxies.  Product activation occurs when the dry and wet agents combine (NO water).

This absence of water enables phosphate castables to be heated within minutes of application.  These revolutionary phosphate-bonded refractories virtually eliminate classical curing and dry out times.

Once heated, the white dry powder and course salt sized aggregate will turn dark grey.

With its precisely premeasured activator ratios, we manipulate Thermbond's properties - tailoring them to suit your specific application.

Once mixed thoroughly, the castable can be applied with a firm trowel by a gloved hand or pressed, tapped, forced, or rammed into place.

It is not as responsive to vibration as traditional castables due to its sticky & adhesive character.

While not an official label direction, experimentation has shown that a slight variation in the ratio of wet to dry alters the properties greatly.  Fractionally more liquid can create a virtual pourable product, and though it can delay setting at room temperature, it can still fully cure upon heat.  In some bonding tests, the old castable fractured while the new layer of phosphate-bonded refractory held fast.

Working times can be very short, and tools should be promptly cleaned.

It is available in different liquid to dry ratios for different properties.

The runniest (MIX-1) is optimal for a thin coat with powerful substrate adherence qualities.

Mix-3 can be shaped by hand into 3-dimensional forms, with minimal or no sagging.

When a 3-dimensional form  (Mix-3 or Mix-4) needs to adhere to an old refractory surface, apply a thin base coat of Mix-1 or Mix-2 first.  The drier Mix easily bonds to the thin coat, especially after letting it airdry for approximately 10 minutes.

The driest Mix-4 can be used for ramming into forms and hard packing.  Compaction or Ramming instills strength quickly.

NOTE:  The activator is considered a dangerous good (its acidic) and needs to be shipped with CANPAR.  Multiple items in your cart?  Ship them all CANPAR, or place two orders, OR - CALL US.  We may have other special options.  (780-470-0789 or  support@canadinianforge.com).
