RESCOCAST 8 - 2800°F, Insulating, Hand-Castable, Easy-to-Use Refractory.

RESCOCAST 8 is an easy-to-use, fine-grained, hand-castable, insulating, 2800°F, medium-weight refractory that finishes nicely.

Mixing:

• Professional Mix is ~ 30% water but for Forge Projects 35-40% is usually better., especially when applying on top of pre-regidized wool.
• Priority is mix to texture needed.
• Use power mixer (drill, blender) for only up to 2 mins.

Suggestions:

• If coating KaoWool, first apply Rigidizer (and fire it briefly for 'crystalization'), then poke holes with pencil so castable has mechanical 'roots' in wool.
• Typically add 2% SS Needles to all refractories.  It keeps any future cracks in place an repairable and adds strength.
• Wiping or brushing a thin coat of the reflective ceramic ITC 100-HT coating onto the finished surface improves forge performance and saves fuel by ~ 1/3.

Properties:

• Max Temp: 2800°F (Safely above a propane forge's max temp).
• 46% Alumina. withstands up to 950 psi, with a cured density of 89 lb/ft3.
• When mixed properly it is 'hand-packable' (it does not automatically 'self-level', or slump, making it suitable for hand casting).
• VERY low iron content (0.5-0.7% iron) helps aid in flux resistance. The iron content in welding Flux amplifies damage to refractories.
