(A STICKY medium density (130 lb/cubic foot), strong (4500 psi), quick-setting, dimensionally-stable, hand packable (or gunnable), high temperature (3000°F) phosphate-bonded refractory.
You may also consider other phosphate-bonded Refractories that mix with water (like RescoBond 3000 (standard), which has a longer open working time, and though sticks, isn't quite like the G, which is almost like honey but starts setting inside of 5 min), Alien Skin 90, and Thermbond 18R and 6P which have their own activator liquids.
Once mixed with water R3000G becomes so sticky you need to use two trowels, one just to scrape it off your first trowel. Its initial tack is quite remarkable; though thicker than honey, it is nearly as sticky.
Quick set-up time makes firm hand packing much more effective than vibration casting.
Once mixed R3000G has the texture of a stiff cow pie and it will adhere to a vertical wall with ease. If you are looking for a similar coating but without the aggregate (a sticky formulation for very thin coats), consider Thermbond 6P. It has the texture of a heavy yogurt, and is almost as smooth. If you need a harder, more abrasion-resistant coating, Alien Skin is a versatile option with an alumina content of nearly 90%. With its fine texture, its largest grains equivalent to those of a pickling salt, it arrives like hard plastercine but transforms to sour cream consistency with just 5% water (it can be mixed to a watery brush coat).
RescoBond 3000 (+/- 'G'), like the phosphate bonded refractories above are engineered to allow them to be brought into service the same day they are cast, a valuable quality when in a hurry or when downtime isn't an option.
Some other dense, low-cement refractories, like Mizzou, are very thick and pasty when mixed correctly and need to be hand-packed if you don't use a vibration table. However, other dense low-cement refractories can be almost self-levelling (like Versaflow 60 and Ultra Express 70).
