More economical than you think because you can trim more aggressively, set the shoes back further, get better wear, and especially on horses that grow slowly - your sets can last.  The shoes stay secure.  Only trim when growth of hoof dictates.

History - The Original Razer Shoes were only available as plain NAIL on shoes.  This caused 3 problems that farriers hated.  (The flexibility of the shoes cycled nails and they were hard to keep on.  The new cuff makes them 2x stronger than regular nailed shoe, and 4x stronger than the original nail on Razer shoes.  The ultra thin shoe caused some horses with thin soles to bruise on even small rocks.  The new rim pad not only eliminates this issue but it makes them fractionally superior to standard shoes.  The thin tempered steel was poor at absorbing concussion on hard ground.  The 1/4" rim pad is so soft, its light years ahead of any other pad, and pads this soft are only possible when paired bonding much better than nails.)

Finally, an advantage Doc S has appreciated having applied thousands of glue on cuffed shoes is they dampen the torquing strain of athletic performance by absorbing a fraction of the twisting by introducing this subtle torque absorber between the shoe and the hoof.  Apply the same type of shoe with a cuff on one foot, and nailed onto the other, and in 3 weeks the cuffed shoe won't have half of the wear.  The cuff embedded in the urethane rim pad  is a rotational strain absorber that doesn't exist in any other attachment system I've ever seen.  Horses consistently respond better than you'd expect.

Sound horse has a whole line up of aluminum shoes bonded to these cuffs.  The only shoes with the elasticity of the ultra thin tempered steel Razer is a fully plastic or urethane shoe, but they sacrifice traction, add extra height and leverage.

Cuffed shoes must be applied using Equilox adhesive. (The Urethanes (Hoof Bond & Repair /Adhere & Ultrafast /Superfast) set up too fast - don't even think about it) We'll publish a how-to 'tips' page as soon as possible.  The cuffed shoes can be worked and cold shaped normally on an anvil.  The process involves holding the glued shoe place with many wraps of temporary stretch wrap for 5-7 minutes until the equilox has set.  A key is to pull the toe in with the first few wraps, initially avoiding the heel, so there is no risk of initial heel wraps pushing and extending the toe forward.  Back is better.  Hoof prep is key. 

I dry the wall with a quick flame, with my leather-gloved hand covering the coronet, followed by a quick rough-up with a sanding block or wheel. Don't use acetone or anything wet as a drying or degreasing agent.  A quick flame followed by a quick sanding is best.  I'll list why later.

I keep equilox (adhesive) on ice until use for extra time.  Always ensure your shoes are on and fully secured before the Acrylic (equilox) has begun to set.  Preparation is key.  Practice all the steps, down to what hand you'll use for what in advance in your head.  The mental practice beforehand is helpful.  You'll feel like an old pro doing it the first time.

The results are instant.  The system allows you to trim a little bit more off the hoof which often affords a little bit of a longer shoeing cycle, and aggressively correct a flare or a crack, without needing to preserve enough wall to nail onto.  The horse is more comfortable right away.
