Pre-Krete is a pizza oven floor favorite. When properly cured G8 can give a great food safe, dark, waterproof, smooth surface.
It is an aluminous hydraulic cement with many industrial purposes including lining the interior of potable water tanks and heaters. It is resistant to most chemicals, corrosion, and abrasion.
The maximum temperature rating after curing is 1900°F in standard wood-fired conditions (note: Because G8 is also used in heavy industrial settings with exposure to volatile chemicals that can affect its maximum temperature, it is officially conservatively rated at 1000°F, though in most applications (like wood-fired pizza ovens) it can tolerate considerably higher temperatures).
NOTE- PreKrete G8 is also available in a custom-formulated ultra-fine preparation for filling small cracks or smoothing imperfections. Most of it is powder-fine, with a few grains as large as sand near 1.0 mm (most is like flour with a few grains like sand).
Note - for setting firebricks (pizza oven bricks coming this week) I suggest the refractory castable KS-4V which is rated to 2600°F. This is versatile to be used both as a stronger mortar and to fill the wedged gap between regular bricks on a dome as it does not have large aggregate, and is easy to work with.
Talk to Sean about adding products to slow down curing if extra time is required.
Note- we also have food-grade bricks for cooking surfaces by special request.
