ITC 213 3500°F Metal Coating (Oxidation Protection)

ITC 213 ceramic coating protects metal and stainless steel from oxidizing, eroding, and fatigue, at forging heats and from contact with molten metal.

Use both as a temporary coating when heat-treating steel, in knifemaking to create a Hamon patterned knife blade, and in long-term applications to protect metals.

ITC 213 is rated to 3,500°F.

Notes:

ITC 213 is the only product in the family that bonds to metal, to protect it, and act as a bonding agent for the reflective coatings; ITC 100 and 296a (296a is for more caustic environments).

ITC base (paste) that is mixed with a 1/3 volume of water and stirred intermittently during application.

  • A little goes a long way. (1/2 pint covers 15 sq. ft of hard substrate).
  • ITC-213 Coated metal can not be welded.
  • Available in 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, and 1-pint jars.

Coating plate steel with ITC213 reduces heat conduction by 300°f at forging heats.

Metal coated with ITC-213 and top coated with ITC-100 (or 296a) will reduce the heat loss between the hot and cold face of a 1/8" thick piece of steel by over 1000°F.

Water-soluble.  To activate, mix three parts ITC 213 with 1 part water.  Kept in a sealed container, it is stable for over 1 year.  Avoid freezing.

Fully degrease your metal first.  Roughening the surface with an abrasive disc or a similar tool helps, as does heating the steel to as high as 100°f to open the metal's pores and optimize adhesion.  Once dry, bake it to at least 250°f so it sets hard.  This will protect against oxidation.  To reflect the heat, apply a coat of ITC 100.  For optimal durability in a caustic environment, apply a further coat of ITC 296a to the baked ITC 100 layer.

Typical coverage of 213 on metal is 30 square feet per pint.  A topcoat of ITC 100 will cover an average of 10 square feet of steel precoated with 213.  If a final coat of 296a is needed, it will typically cover 15 square feet per pint.

ITC 213 is also available by the Gallon on Request (which will coat 250 sq feet of metal).

Canadian Forge sells only the authentic N. American Engineered ITC Ceramic Coatings.  Counterfeit foreign substances have appeared, disguised with fake ITC labels.  We use ITC coatings for safety and efficiency.  Don't be fooled.
