Satanite Refractory Mortar

Satanite is a dry, high alumina mortar rated at 3200°F. The most popular application is to use as a mortar between insulating fire brick (IFB) or dense brick in a heat chamber such as a forge.

Another popular use is to create Hamon lines on knife blades or to reduce the scale on a knife during heat treatment.

Notes:  Satanite is commonly sold with online packages for use as a wool coating.  Speaking candidly, while Satanite has its place, approaching more versatile mortars; Sairset or Versuvius Super 8, or No 36 High Strength Mortar when added strength is needed- Mortars are for glueing bricks together - not castings.  If you want to coat wool: rigidize it, fire it, coat it with a castable like Rescocast 8 or KOL-30-LI Plus, and attain superior strength, insulation, crack resistance, integration with SS needles, appearance, durability, and value.
