Razer Horseshoes - with Shock Pad, Ligament Flex & 4x Strength of Nails

16 items left

Cuffed Razor Shoes are a game changer.  Not enough hoof wall for nailing?  Trouble keeping shoes on?  Need optimal traction while being gentle on coffin, pastern, fetlock joints and knees?  Light, strong, sound, flex likes being barefoot, corners on rails.  Gentle on feet, 2x more secure than nails.

Sound Horse built special molds for these Razer Shoes in collaboration with Dr A and this is they are only available here, Worldwide.  Special Discount Pricing compared vs other Sigafoos/ Sound Horse shoes for a limited number of sales.

More economical than you think because you can trim more aggressively, set the shoes back further, get better wear, and especially on horses that grow slowly - your sets can last.  The shoes stay secure.  Only trim when growth of hoof dictates.

Have a speed horse (barrels, TB, chuck, Standardbred, QH, etc) with hooves that are sore, tight, thin, cracked, sensitive, etc and in need of a winning solution?  - Fixed.

Are you struggling with any of these?

  • Stiff or tight ligaments?  The flex of the cuff and the give in the shoe is 210% easier on joints and ligaments.
  • Sensitive or sore or hard ground?  The 1/4 shock absorbing cuff gives sensitive soles more ground clearance and more cushion than most pads with more security than any pad.

  • Not as sound in a circle?
  • Trouble keeping shoes on?  Thin hoof walls?
  • Pressure abscesses or corns?
  • Throwing shoes?  No hoof wall left for nails?
  • Weak feet, cracks, sole bruising?
  • 'Breakover' shoes not giving the traction needed?
  • Shoes not lasting?  The cuffs absorb 80% of the ground friction.  Shoes last 2x longer than nail-on versions.

  • Can't remove flares and still have enough hoof to nail?  The cuffs allow you to trim to where you want TODAY - without worrying you won't have enough wall to nail to - because you ALWAYS have enough wall to glue cuffs to.

ADVANTAGES:

  • The thinnest shoes made.  Lightweight, like aluminum.
  • 5x more abrasion resistant than aluminum, holding their traction edge longer.
  • Made of flexible tempered steel these flex more like a barefoot hoof, taking strain off lower limb ligaments on circles.
  • Shoes this flexible, attached with this flexible cuff, stay on 4x stronger than nails.
  • Reduces heel loading when landing heel first at speed. The cuff dissipates shock and heel loading to the wider toe wall.
  • Ultra-thin steel is bonded to 1/4" shock-absorbing rim pad:
    • comfort
    • optimal ground clearance avoids bruising of other ultra-thin shoes.
    • dampens shock waves
    • concave rim pad optimizes dirt grab & traction
  • The rim pad is bevelled optimizing dirt capture and traction, a benefit to all breeds and multiplied by the forelimb driving gait of the sprinting quarterhorse.
  • Uniquely flexible shoe greater soundness in circles
  • Razer shoes flex like a barefoot hoof allowing optimal blood flow, internal stability, reduced ligament strain and greater soundness, especially on a circle.

History - The Original Razer Shoes were only available as plain NAIL on shoes.  This caused 3 problems that farriers hated.  (The flexibility of the shoes cycled nails and they were hard to keep on.  The new cuff makes them 2x stronger than regular nailed shoe, and 4x stronger than the original nail on Razer shoes.  The ultra thin shoe caused some horses with thin soles to bruise on even small rocks.  The new rim pad not only eliminates this issue but it makes them fractionally superior to standard shoes.  The thin tempered steel was poor at absorbing concussion on hard ground.  The 1/4" rim pad is so soft, its light years ahead of any other pad, and pads this soft are only possible when paired bonding much better than nails.)

Finally, an advantage Doc S has appreciated having applied thousands of glue on cuffed shoes is they dampen the torquing strain of athletic performance by absorbing a fraction of the twisting by introducing this subtle torque absorber between the shoe and the hoof.  Apply the same type of shoe with a cuff on one foot, and nailed onto the other, and in 3 weeks the cuffed shoe won't have half of the wear.  The cuff embedded in the urethane rim pad  is a rotational strain absorber that doesn't exist in any other attachment system I've ever seen.  Horses consistently respond better than you'd expect.

Sound horse has a whole line up of aluminum shoes bonded to these cuffs.  The only shoes with the elasticity of the ultra thin tempered steel Razer is a fully plastic or urethane shoe, but they sacrifice traction, add extra height and leverage.

Cuffed shoes must be applied using Equilox adhesive. (The Urethanes (Hoof Bond & Repair /Adhere & Ultrafast /Superfast) set up too fast - don't even think about it) We'll publish a how-to 'tips' page as soon as possible.  The cuffed shoes can be worked and cold shaped normally on an anvil.  The process involves holding the glued shoe place with many wraps of temporary stretch wrap for 5-7 minutes until the equilox has set.  A key is to pull the toe in with the first few wraps, initially avoiding the heel, so there is no risk of initial heel wraps pushing and extending the toe forward.  Back is better.  Hoof prep is key.

I dry the wall with a quick flame, with my leather-gloved hand covering the coronet, followed by a quick rough-up with a sanding block or wheel. Don't use acetone or anything wet as a drying or degreasing agent.  A quick flame followed by a quick sanding is best.  I'll list why later.

I keep equilox (adhesive) on ice until use for extra time.  Always ensure your shoes are on and fully secured before the Acrylic (equilox) has begun to set.  Preparation is key.  Practice all the steps, down to what hand you'll use for what in advance in your head.  The mental practice beforehand is helpful.  You'll feel like an old pro doing it the first time.

The results are instant.  The system allows you to trim a little bit more off the hoof which often affords a little bit of a longer shoeing cycle, and aggressively correct a flare or a crack, without needing to preserve enough wall to nail onto.  The horse is more comfortable right away.
